Rawhide prices of sacrificial animals lowered more ahead of Eid-ul-Azha as per the government announcement.
The government has fixed the prices of those rawhide and skins, lowering the rate from the previous year.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday announced the rawhide prices during a virtual meeting.
As per the fixed rate, tanners will have to buy cowhide at Tk 35 to 40 per square foot in Dhaka and Tk 28 to 32 per square foot outside of the capital city.
It also fixed the price of goat hide at Tk 13-15 and ‘Baqra’ goat hides at Tk 10-12 per square foot across the country.
Traditionally, the commerce ministry fixes the prices of rawhide for tanners ahead of Eid-ul-Azha every year.
Half the cattle slaughtered in Bangladesh throughout the year are sacrificed during Eid.
During the Eid every year, seasonal traders collect rawhide and skin of sacrificial animals buying from the worshippers who sacrifice those.
Then the wholesalers buy the hides and skins from those traders and sell these to tanners.
Tanners collect a large portion of their raw hides in this big festival of Muslims.
