The nine-day Ratha Yatra (journey of chariot), one of the major festivals of the Hindu community, began on 25 june last in Chittagong city, its adjacent districts and upazilas amid much festivity and religious fervour.
The chariot of Sree lord Jagannat (other name of Lord Krishna) has started the journey from ISKAN temple at city’s Probartak Sanga and reached Nandankanon after parading several important city streets.
International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON) organized the function while City Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin inaugurated the function afternoon.
Hundreds of Hindu devotees irrespective of all ages, including theologians, hermit, participated in the journey and the pulling of rope function.
Speaking on the occasion, the mayor said Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony and members of the Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and Christian communities have been living here from time immemorial with amity and peace.
