Rare waterspout tornado form in Hakaluki Haor

A waterspout tornado, a rare natural phenomenon of rotating column of water formed by whirlwind, was seen on the water bodies of the Hakaluki Haor of the district on Saturday.
Locals said that the waterspout was created between the water bodies of Chatlabeel and Bailakandi of the Hakaluki Haor just before the evening on Saturday.
Hundreds of people of Baralekha, Kulaura and Juri Upazilas witnessed the phenomenon which lasted for about 10 minutes.
The waterspout was draining water from the Haor and disappearing into the black clouds.
The quizzical people gazed it with wonder and captured the moment by snapping photos and making videos, which were later shared with the social media to make it a viral.
Witnesses said that they saw something whirling like a trunk of elephant connecting the water and the sky. The sight created wonder and awe both among people, they said.
Rain and storm began when the waterspout tornado weakened, the locals said.
“Some people said that they saw such view some years ago. But I saw it for the first time and made a video of it,” Saiful Islam, who made the view live on Facebook, said.
Kulaura UNO Md Mahmudur Rahman Khankoker said, “I have come to know about it. It may create in the Hoar area. However, we did not have any news of casualties.”
