A rare spice of tortoise was found in a shrimp farm belonging to one Md. Ashique of village Ransen under Rampal Upazil in Bagerhat district at the night of Thursday, according to a report received here. Being informed of the matter forest department of Sndarbans recovered it from there and released it in a (safe) pond of Karamjal Tourist Spot and Wild Animal Breeding Centre under Chandpai Forest Range in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans (in Bagerhat district) on Friday noon. Azad Kabir, Officer-in-charge of Karamjal Tourist Spot and Wild Animal Breeding Centre told, it is a Sundhi/Sandhi spice of tortoise. Due to the adverse effect of changing the climate it is on the verge of extinction. It is now rarely available in both sweet and saline water, He added, we are trying to save this rare spice of tortoise.
