A court sentenced Rana Sarder (35) to life imprisonment and fined Tk one lakh for more than six months in jail for rape of a schoolgirl in Satkhira on Monday.
In addition, for the abduction of the same case, he was given another 14 years rigorous imprisonment and one hundred thousand fine, more than six months in prison. Judge Hosne Ara Akhter of Satkhira Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal announced the verdict.
The convicted is a son of late Pashu Sardar of village Bilganj of Kalia upazila of Naraul district.
Case details say that on July 8, 2005, Khurdo of Pakuria village under Kalaroa upazila kidnapped a fifth grade student (14) and his girlfriend (12) of BRAC School and kept a woman and a girl in Jessore and raped a fifth-grade student.

Man plotted murders of wife, daughters

A man allegedly instigated the murders of his first wife and two minor daughters at Ati Housing area of Sidhirganj as they were standing as obstacles to his second marriage, police said on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Angzubi Aktar, 28, first wife of Masud Dewan and their two daughters Maida Aktar, 7, and 15-month- old Mahe.
Narayanganj Additional Police Superintendent Md Sharifuddin said Masud Dewan married his wife’s friend without his first wife’s permission. Masud use to argue with Angzubi over the matter.
To end the matter, Masud along with his second wife Shova Aktar and her cousin Sabuj alias Shohel planned the murders of his first wife and two daughters, he said.
The bodies of the two daughters were also wrapped in a sack and dumped in a fish enclosure at Ati area.

Police in a anti-drug drive at Jahurul Islam Medical College, Bhagolpur road in Bajitpur town of Kishoreganj on Monday evening.
Police also arrested yaba lord Ishak Miah (Daku) (37) and recovered 1600 pieces of yaba tablets from his possission.
Bajitpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saifur Rahman Mojumder told The New Nation that the arrested Ishak had been peddling drugs in the area for long. Ishak Miah was sent to jail .
