A Chittagong court on Tuesday awarded life term rigorous imprisonment to a man in a verdict on charges of raping a teenage cousin at Sayedpur village under Boalkhali upazila of the district.
The court also fined him TK 50 thousand for the same crime.
The judge Mohammad Rezaul Karim of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal- 1 delivered the judgment convicting Mohammad Jasim Uddin, son of Abdul Hamid, hailed from Sayedpur village of Popadia union under Boalkhali upazila of the district.
The prosecution story in brief is that Jasim Uddin raped his teenage cousin alluring to marry her. The girl became pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy on August 5, 2000.
But Jasim Uddin refused to marry her when she along with her family member urged him freequently. In one stage Jashim left the village. Later the victim filed a case before court on April 30 in 2008 .
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Boalkhali Rabindro Sri Barua submitted inquiry report on July 7 in 2008 and the court framed charges on January 31, 2010. The court today after examining four out of four prosecution witnesses awarded the judgement convicting the fugitive Jashim.
