A rape victim has committed suicide at Hashimpur-Doyrampur village in Kumarkhali upazila for facing public humiliation instead of getting justice.
The ill-fated woman is Nasima Khatun, 28, a three-month pregnant housewife of the village.
Locals said Nasima on Sunday had gone to a village doctor named Jhontu as she fell ill.The doctor, however, violated the woman making her unconscious through pushing a sedative injection into her body.
After regaining sense, she could realise the matter and later informed it to her husband and in-laws.
As the matter spread among the villagers as well, Jhontu, a locally influential person, forced Nasima’s family members to stay confined to their house.But escaping from confinement, they later went to Kumarkhali Police Station to lodge a complaint about the incident.
