Rangunia farmers sending winter vegetables to city

Winter crops specifically vegetables have been cultivated on 2,000 hectares of land in 15 unions of Rangunia upazila in north Chattogram . Wholesale traders of vegetable from different upazials and urban areas are buying vegetables directly from the farmers of Rangunia.
Farmers bring winter vegetables by boat from the Shankha River bank areas like Dohazari, Dhopacchari, Boroma, Barkal Boiltali. From there, wholesalers are buying vegetables and supplying through trucks, pickups and various transportation to the retail shops or bazars of the city.
It is learnt that, around 700 farmers have cultivated vegetables this year in the area of Sarafvata, Shilok, Betagi, and Rajanagar of South Rangunia, Parua, South Rajanagar and Lalanagar area of Hoshanabad Union. Vegetable farming has also been carried out in Dangar Char on the Ghatckek banks of the Karnaphuli River. These vegetables include potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, radish, cucumber, eggplant, tomato, bean, chilli, onion, red chilli, garlic, sweet pumpkin, coriander leaves and carrots. Per kg tomatoes are selling at Tk 30, cauliflower at Tk 25, cucumber Tk 30, eggplant at Tk 35.
On the other hand, winter vegetables are found in the Shakha Char -various types of spinach, eggplant, bean, sweet pumpkin, clove, bitter gourd, etc.
Currently the prices of winter vegetables are slightly higher in the wholesale market. Farmer sells vegetables in cages. In this wholesale market there is a cage of Mula is Tk 1 thousand to 3 thousand, eggplant is Tk 3 to 4 thousand are being sold at a rate of 1 to 3 rupees. Abdul Gafur, a farmer in Katakhali village of Parua Union of Rangunia, said that this year, I have cultivated vegetables on 2 acres of land. As the yield of vegetables is good, I am getting good prices. I’m hopeful that the cost will be recovered and I will make some profit also.
Meanwhile, after the arrival of these vegetables in the market of Chattogram, prices rise as usual.
6th Int’l Trade , Exports Fair begins in Port City : A month long International Trade and Export Fair-2019 was inaugurated at Outer stadium in the port city yesterday afternoon.
Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised the Fair for 6th term .
Minister for Commerce Md. Tipu Munshi MP formally inaugurated the Fair as chief guest. In his brief deliverations Commerce Minister said Chattogram is the lifeline of the country and Bangladesh is looking towards Chattogram. He said people of Chattogam loves me and I am always eager to come Chattogram whenever I was asked. He disclosed it while addressing the inaugural session the fair.
