Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said the law enforcers had already arrested the mastermind of Rangpur arson attack, whose Facebook post triggered the agitation as it hurt the Muslims’ religious sentiment.
“The mastermind, Titu Chandra Roy, was held from Jaldhaka Upazila of Nilphamari,” the Minister said on Tuesday after visiting Thakurbari village.
He said that police did what they were supposed to do, and those responsible for disorder, no matter who they are, will be brought to justice. “Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh is a non-communal country and no one can conspire here.”
A special team of Rangpur Police arrested Titu from a relative’s house at Chirviza Golna village in Jaldhaka upazila around 4:00am on Tuesday, our local correspondent reports quoting Mostafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaldhaka Police Station.
A mobile phone number which was used for opening the Facebook ID around two months ago. The phone number was found unused and police could not verify it reports on media.
The owner of the Facebook account generally shared posts or uploaded screenshots of others’ posts.
Earlier on Saturday, police filed a case against more than 2,000 people for the clash and detained 58 people from Gangachhara and Kotwali areas on Friday night in this connection.
Centering a reported Facebook post by Titu Chandra ‘demeaning’ Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), around 8,000 people from nearby villages marched towards Thakurbari village, a Hindu – dominated village and vandalised and torched eight to 10 houses on November 10. At one stage, a man was killed and 20 others, including four policemen, were injured during the clash.
