UNB, Rangpur :A local Jubo League leader was chopped to death by unidentified miscreants at Mahiganj in Satmatha area of the city early Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Imran Miah, 28, secretary of ward no. 30 unit of the youth front of ruling Awami League.Witnesses said a group of miscreants swooped on Imran and chopped him indiscriminately with sharp weapons when he went out of a hotel at about 1:00 am, leaving him injured.Critically injured, Imran was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.Local people and Jubo League activists kept the Rangpur-Kurigram Highway blocked since early morning in protest.A tense situation is prevailing in the area. Informed, police rushed to the spot.
