Staff Reporter, Rangpur :
To deal with the ongoing corona pandemic situation, the Fisheries Department of Rangpur district undertook various programs including sale of mobile fish as per direction of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
In order to keep the production of pollen fry active in the government and private fish seed production farms, to continue the activities of fry producing nurseries, successful implementation of fish farming activities, programs have been taken to transport all kinds of fish related products so that there are no problems. Under the program, 21 private hatchery pollen production activities are going on in the district and also one government hatchery is producing pollen fry.
Moreover, for the expansion of lobster farming in Rangpur district, lobster PL production activities are continuing at the Shathibari Government Fisheries Hatchery. In order to keep the activities of about 452 fry producing nurseries and 696 commercial fish farms in the district running successfully, the concerned upazila level officers, employees and union level lifts are working regularly.
It is being suggested to affix stickers on ‘Fisheries related emergency transport’ so that there is no problem on the road.
Moreover, from the very beginning of the lockdown, a class of mobile fish traders has been set up so that the fish can be easily delivered to the people. As per the district fisheries department, about 45 people are engaged in this work in the district. The sales volume of their fish in Elcaved is up to 30-40 kg. Since April 18, about 1181 kg of native species including Shing-Magur and Rui have been sold through these mobile fish traders at a cost of around Rs 200,000.
Rangpur District Fisheries Officer Arun Chandra Biswas said that the sale of mobile fish continues in 8 upazilas of the district. At present, the price of fish is slightly lower than normal due to adequate supply of fish in the fish production and markets. The District Fisheries Department is encouraging the people to eat fish in response to the Kovid-19 epidemic.
This is because fish meat plays an effective role in building the body’s immune system, which is now very important for humans.
Rangpur District Fisheries Department is implementing the programs taken with the help of district and upazila administration to keep the fisheries sector active in tackling the current Kovid-19. In addition, the systematic work to increase fish production is ongoing in this situation.
