Rangpur District Football Association (DSA) became champions by defeating Gaibandha DSA by 2-1 goals in the final match of the Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Gold Cup Football Tournament-2014 held here on Friday.
None of the teams could score any goal in the fist half of the highly competitive and enjoyable final match held at Rangpur Stadium this afternoon in presence of hundreds of spectators from all walks in the society.
Mehedi Hassan Moon of Rangpur DSA scored the fist goal in the beginning of the second half while Batul Hossain of the same team scored the second goal at the 69th minute doubling the margin to defeat Gaibandha DSA by 2-0.
A total of eight teams including Rangpur DSA, Kurigram DSA, Lalmonirhat DSA, Gaibandha DSA, Panchagarh DSA, Thakurgaon DSA and Dinajpur DSA of Rangpur division took part in the tournament that began at the same stadium on September 10 last.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Mossarraf Hossain Bhuiyan witnessed the final match of the tournament match and distributed prizes among the winners today as the chief guest.
Divisional Commissioner and President of Rangpur Divisional Sports Association Muhammad Dilwar Bakht presided over the prize-giving ceremony.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) and Convener of the Tournament Organising Committee Narayan Chandra Barma, Deputy Commissioners of all eight districts in Rangpur Division, General Secretary of Rangpur Divisional Sports Association and Member-secretary of Tournament Organising Committee Advocate Anwarul Islam were present.
