Considering Rangamati Hill District as a backward area the government has been implementing a number of development projects by different governmental agencies with a view to easing lives of the people living in the hilly district.
Under the development plans of the government, he Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has been implementing different projects, including road, bridge, culvert, building construction and refurbishment works, in the hilly area.
The department has already completed 158 kilometers of 214 km roads and 2348 meters of 3888 meters spans of bridges and culverts while the rest 56 kilometers roads and 1540 meters spans of bridges and culverts are under construction in different remote areas to make rural road communications comfortable of the district.
The total road works are being implemented through 135 schemes under five Rural Infrastructure Development Project at a cost of Taka 359.72 crore, Rony Saha, Rangamati Sadar Upazila engineer said The New Nation.
Giving importance to liberation war happened in 1971, four museums to preserve memories of liberation war of the hilly area are being built at Kawkhali upazila, Baghaichhori upazila, Borkolu pazila and Jurachhori upazila at a cost of Taka 2.20 crore.Apart from the museums, a liberation war complex building is also being built at Kaptaiupazila costing Taka 2.12 crore.With a view to alleviating housing problems of landless and insolvent freedom fighters, the required number of houses were built in different upazilas of the district, the engineer added.
Emphasizing importance to primary education of the backward district, 282 buildings costing Taka 168 crore under Primary Education Development Project have already been built at different upazila saccording to the government plan.
Of the four upazilas complex buildings, the work of Kapati upazila has already been completed costing Taka 4.29 crore while the others at Rangamati sadar upazila, Borkalupazila and Belaichhori upazila are under construction at a cost of Taka 18 crore.
Giving importance to financial prosperity of remote areas of the district, four schemes under Rural Haat Bazaar Development Project are being implemented at Kalapakuijja bazaar and Mahilla bazaar under Baghaichhori upazila, and Rajostholi bazaar and Gilachhori bazaar in Rajostholi upazila at a cost of Taka 8 crore.
With a view to promoting non-municipal areas, the works of two projects at Kaptaiupazila and Longadu upazila under Upazila Town Master Plan Making and Basic Infrastructure Development Project are going on at a cost of Taka 7.20 crore.
The department has already carried out 94 schemes costing Taka 5.26 crore under Social Infrastructure Development Project in different upazilasof the district to ensureobserving religious rituals ofthe locals from different communities.
The works of 22 union council buildings have already been completed in different unions of the hilly district to make grassroots level administrative services of government more dynamic.
