The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday sent notices to the family members of Sohel Rana asking them to submit their movable and immovable wealth and properties’ statement to the commission, said sources in ACC.
Sohel Rana is the owner of the Rana Plaza at Savar on the outskirts of the capital, which collapsed last year leaving more than 1100 people dead and many more injured.
A probe team of ACC led by its Deputy Director Mohammad Mofidul Islam served the notice on the family members, including his father Abdul Khalek.
The team was formed on April 28 last year and it launched its investigation from April 30. After one month, the team submitted a primary inquiry report to the commission.
On May 15 in 2013, ACC issued notice to Sohel Rana and his father asking them to submit their wealth statements when they were in the prison. His father has recently obtained bail from the court.
Then ACC Chairman Golam Rahman told the journalists that the commission sent notice to the accused but it was not fruitful due to law complexities.
The primary inquiry report states that Sohel Rana owns a five-storey building at Savar, two-storey building in Manikganj, several plots of land in and outside the Savar municipal area and two brickfields despite the cracked Rana Plaza.
The inquiry team traced several vehicles owned by Sohel Rana, more than 23 bank accounts with the Exim Bank, the National Bank, the Dutch Bangla-Bank and the BRAC Bank.
The committee also found a fixed deposit receipt of Tk 35 lakh in the name of Rana. In the report, the probe body said that more wealth of Rana could be found in the further investigation.
The committee has found the involvement of Sheikh Abdul Mannan, a member of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), in constructing the building in violation of the code of conduct.
