The BNP on Friday alleged that the government is constructing Rampal power plant near Sundarbans for a neighbouring country’s interest though they know that it will harm Bangladesh’s environment.
“This government is securing other country’s interests. They are not the government of the people of this country. The Rampal project will surely harm Bangladesh’s national interests, but the government is ignoring that,” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this at a press conference at the party Chairperson’s Gulshan office.
Rizvi, however, denounced the police actions in foiling Anti-Rampal Power Plant march of the National Committee to protect Oil, Gas and Ports, on Thursday. He said, the incident proves that the government is acting in the interest of a neighbouring country, not for our homeland.
India’s state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) got the contract to build the much-debated coal power plant in Rampal.
The BNP leader also accused of the government that they are not honest to fight with militancy. He said, the government is ignoring the views of the people, so, the militancy goes on rise.
He questioned over the on-going anti-militancy raids. “The role of law enforcers against Gulshan attackers did not draw any question, then why the question arises over Kalyanpur raid?” he asked.
BNP central leaders Advocate Sanaullah Mian, Masud Ahmed Talukdar, Belal Ahmed and Shamsuddin Didar, were present at the press conference.
