UNB, Dhaka :
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a condemned convict of Ramna Batamul blast case from Keraniganj upazila early Thursday.
The arrestee was identified as Abu Bakar alias Hafez Selim Hawladar, 35, one of eight condemned convicts of Ramna blast case and a charge sheeted accused of the August 21 grenade attack case.
Abu baker was also an associate of Mufti Hannan, the chief of banned Islamist outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad Al Islami (Huji).
Tipped off, a team of the elite force launched a drive in Keraniganj around 3am and arrested Bakar, sources at the RAB headquarters told UNB.
Earlier on June 23, a Dhaka court sentenced eight people, including Abu Bakar, to death and six others to life term imprisonment in the sensational Ramna blast case.
The blast that took place during Pahela Baishakh celebrations at Chhayanaut on April 14 in 2001 left 10 people dead and scores of others injured.
