The immigration process at Ramgarh land port in Khagrachari is starting in early October. Through this, the people of Greater Chittagong and India’s Tripura state can easily travel between the two countries. The construction of a modern quality immigration building in the land port area is also nearing completion. The immigration building of Ramgarh land port is being constructed at the southern end of the Bangladesh Bharat Maitri Setu-I built on the Feni river with the aim of launching the Ramgarh-Sabrum land port.
According to the related sources, the decision was taken to start the immigration for the time being as the construction work of land port infrastructure development was stopped due to border issues. On June 22, the Ramgarh Shipping Secretary decided to start the immigration process quickly to look into the border issues. Accordingly, the construction of a modern immigration building 150 yards outside the border was started in July. A contracting firm named Mercus Onic Trading Corporation is working day and night on the final stage of construction. According to a related source, the immigration building is being constructed in a short period of time by requesting the World Bank. All the work-coms of customs, immigration, checking etc. will be conducted within the same building. According to sources, it is basically a passenger terminal. After resolving the border complications, the ICP (Integrated Check Post) building will be constructed and the work of immigration, customs etc. will be conducted there.
Bangladesh Land Port Authority has taken a project of Tk 125 crore for the construction of necessary infrastructure of the port on 10 acres of land acquired in Mahamuni area of Ramgarh with the aim of launching Ramgarh Land Port under the scope of Bangladesh Regional Connectivity Project-1. A contractor called Monico Limited was appointed to implement the project.
On August 29, the Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Md. Mustafa Kamal, who came to see the progress of the construction work, informed the reporters that the immigration program will be launched in September.
