Ramendu Majumdar, former president of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) was awarded the ITI 70th anniversary medal for his outstanding and long-term contribution to ITI.
The award giving ceremony was held at the Hainan Opera House of Haikou in China recently. On the occasion, two other former ITI presidents namely Jeong-Ok Kim of South Korea and Manfred Beilharz of Germany were also awarded the medal.
It is noted that prominent Bangladeshi actor, stage director and theater producer Ramendu Majumdar was elected the President of ITI for the second time in 2011.
He was the second Asian to be elected to this position since ITI’s establishment in 1948 as an initiative of UNESCO. Earlier, Ramendu was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2009.
