UNB, Dhaka :
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said if the government finally does not allow BNP to hold a rally in the city, it will expose there is no democracy in the country.
“Why do you (govt) fear a rally when you speak about democracy? The main spirit of democracy is to ensure the equal right for all. Allow us to hold a rally and carry out our democratic activities. Or else, it’ll manifest there’s no democracy in the country,” he said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks at a discussion at Supreme
Court Bar Association auditorium arranged by Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, marking November 7 as the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.
BNP had first sought permission for holding a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7 or 8 marking the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.
