Students and some organizations of the school have staged a protest and human chain against the teacher of Singinala High School in Mahalchhari of Khagrachhari to protest against the sexual harassment of a female student. A half-hour human chain and protest rally was held at Singinala Bazaar on Tuesday. In addition to the students involved in the human chain, the teenage club and the dream school, Singinala Shapla Sangha also participated.
Hari Ranjan Dey, an assistant teacher in the science department at Singinala High School, is accused of sexually harassing a female student. The victimized student is the 2021 SSC examinee of that school. The accused teacher used to teach chemistry and biology to the student in a private room of the school.
For a long time, he used to sexually harass the students with his hands in sensitive places in the space of private reading. Ashamed, the student endured all this in silence. Last Saturday, when he went to the teacher to show her the assignment, he found her alone, hugged her and forcibly sexually assaulted her in a sensitive place. At one stage, the student ran from the teacher’s room. He later reported the incident to his parents.
According to the decision of the parents, the victim lodged a written complaint against the teacher Hari Ranjan with the headmaster of the school.
Speaking at a human chain and protest rally in Mahalchhari on Tuesday to protest the sexual harassment of a female student and demand punishment for the accused teacher, Khei Kheiching Marma, a 10th class student of the school, Utheimong Marma, members of the regional branch of the Marma Student Council Major.
In this regard, the headmaster of the school, Mongmang Marma, said that action would be taken against the accused teacher as per the decision of the school management committee.
Accused teacher Hari Ranjan Dey denied the allegation of sexual harassment, saying, “I called the student to the room and scolded her because there was a mistake on the cover page of the assignment. This is my time. It is a conspiracy against me.”
