RAKUB disburses Tk 1,208cr as agri loan

Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank ( RAKUB) has disbursed Taka 1208 crore as loan for boosting rural economy besides creating employment through enhancing agricultural and non-agricultural production in the country’s north-western region during the first nine and half months of this current 2014-15 fiscal year.
Besides disbursing money, the bank has also realised Taka 1395 crore including Taka 352 crore classified and other outstanding loans and mobilized deposit worth Taka 3,420 crore through 378 branches in all the 16 districts under Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions.
RAKUB Deputy Managing Director Abdul Khaleque Khan told BSS that the bank has set a target of disbursing Taka 1,600 crore as loan, recovery of Taka 1,800 crore including Taka 750.00 crore classified loan and deposit collection of Taka 3,800 crore during the current fiscal.
He said the present government had earmarked the money for RAKUB for disbursing as crop and rural uplift loan only in the northwest Bangladesh during the current fiscal.
To build a poverty- free Bangladesh, he said the bank had enhanced its lending activities in multipurpose potential fields for boosting agriculture production, intensifying food security and flourishing poultry and dairy sectors to reduce protein deficiency.
In this regard, Khaleque Khan said Taka 552.21 crore among 1.02 lakh farmers for crops, Taka 15.05 crore among 430 farmers for fisheries, Taka 47.87 crore among 6,066 farmers for animal resource, Taka 0.35 crore among 27 borrowers for agricultural farms and machineries, Taka 14.57 crore among 112 farmers for agro-based industries, Taka 72.80 crore among 1545 entrepreneurs for SMEs, Taka 347.76 crore among 6947 people for cash credit, Taka 29.01 crore among 4242 borrowers for poverty reduction and Taka 128.51 crore among 26748 borrowers for various need-based sectors were disbursed during the same period.
“We have launched special credit programme for encouraging the people for setting up solar power, biogas and waste management plant for generating eco- friendly and alternative power to face the power supply deficit,” he said adding that credit is being extended to the sector on a priority basis.
As the largest development partner in agriculture as well as agro- based industry sector of the northwest region, currently the bank has adopted multipurpose development programmes, which are being implemented at the grassroots to make the credit programmes easier.
Headquartered in Rajshahi, the specialized bank has been putting in its level best effort to establish a dynamic leadership along with accountability and transparency in all its activities to earn confidence of the clients.
“We are giving more emphasis to enhance credit flow towards exploring the potential sectors of the region,” Khaleque Khan said.
More than 200 branches, so far, have been brought under computerisation and all the 376 branches will be brought under the modern system by the yearend, he added.
