The colourful Rakhine Sangrai festival, farewell to Rakhine Year 1383 and welcoming New Year 1384 has been started in Kuakata coast under Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali.
This festival is organized to welcome the New Year forgetting all the sorrows and grief of the past year organised by Aung Self and Education Development Foundation.
Rakhine families were able to participate in the festival after two long years in Corona
Various programs are organized in hundreds year old traditional public festival of Sangrai or New Year of Rakhine
The formality of the festival begins with the bathing of the Buddha statue in Kuakata on Saturday at Srimangal Buddhist Monastery in Kuakata
Then Buddhist observing various programs including circling around the Bihar three times, arranging bahari food, flowers in the temple with respect, are observed throughout the day occasionally with a festive mood.
Rakhine from different Rakhine villages of the region have been performing wearing their traditional ‘Thami'(Girls) and ‘Lungi’ (boys) start attending since later morning in the presence of about 500 students.
At three o’clock in the afternoon the friendly water showers or water games are held with Kamal Hossain, Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner, as the chief guest inaugurated the water sports festival.
