The frontier cattle trade in northwestern Rajshahi region earned this year over Taka 22.76 crore as revenue, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials said.
“Revenue earning from the 11 cattle corridors in the region increased remarkably during the past seven months this year,” BGB’s Rajshahi sector commander Col Matiur Rahman told a media briefing at his office.
He said during the corresponding period of the last year, only Taka 6.90 lakh was earned as revenue largely because of Indian restrictions against cattle export to Bangladesh. Rahman said the amount of Taka 22,76 crore was collected as revenue from 4.48 lakh cows, 50,226 buffaloes and 10 goats till Wednesday last.
He said BGB was extending all supports to those who were involved in cattle business complying with legal procedures but remained vigilant against attempts to evade taxes.
The BGB commander also outlined preventive measures against cross-border drug and cattle smuggling, woman and child trafficking, security on zero lines. He sought cooperation of people in frontiers in preventing border crimes urging them to provide specific information about the drugs-smugglers.
