Rajshahi Royals in BBPL final

Rajshahi Royals cruised into the final of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) final beating Chattogram Challengers by two wickets in the 2nd Qualifier of the Twenty20 cricket match at the flood-lit Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Wednesday.
Sent into bat first, Chattogram Challengers piled up a fighting total of 164 for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, Rajshahi Royals overhauled the winning target making 165 for the loss of eight wickets remaining with just four balls.
Andre Russell of Rajshahi Royals played the key role to help his team to take the final spot.
Russell hit a formidable 54 using 22 deliveries. He hit seven huge sixes and two fours in his match-winning innings. Russell was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Chattogram Challengers lost their early two wickets for 45 runs.
Then Chris Gayle and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together 52 runs for the third wicket partnership before Chris Gayle was bowled out by Afif Hossain when Chattogram’s total was 97 for the loss of three wickets.
Gayle hammered a hurricane 60. His 24-ball innings was studded with five sixes and six fours.
Later, Chattogram Challengers batsmen failed to make any remarkable partnership. Mahmudullah Riyad hit a quick-fire 33. His 18-ball knock saw three fours and three sixes.
Asela Gunaratne made 31 from 25 deliveries featuring two sixes and a four. Mohammad Newaz and Mohammad Irfan bagged two wickets each for 13 and 16 runs respectively.
Alok Kapali, Afif Hossain and Andre Russell took one wicket apiece. Rajshahi Royals faced a disaster as they lost three wickets for 34 runs. Then Irfan Sukkur and Shoaib Malik put on together 46 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Shoaib Malik (14) was caught by Mahmudullah Riyad off Ziaur Rahman when Rajshahi’s score was 80 for the loss of four wickets.
After Shoaib’s dismissal, Irfan Sukkur was caught by Chadwick Walton off Mehedi Hasan Rana when Rajshahi’s total was 83 for the loss of five wickets.
Walton hit a fine 45 from 42 balls featuring six fours.
Rayad Emrit and Rubel Hossain of Chattogram Challengers bagged two wickets each conceding 32 and 41 runs respectively.
