A Rajshahi doctor whose arrest sparked huge protests from his colleagues in the district has been released on bail. A court granted him bail on Sunday. Pro-Awami League panel Swachip leader Shamil Uddin Shimul was arrested over the death of a patient whose relatives blamed him for wrong treatment. Seven organisations of doctors, nurses of private and public hospitals and local clinic owners had gone on strike demanding his release. The strike caused much sufferings for patients and those seeking medical assistance. A man had died on Friday at the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital when the strike was on. On Friday, the protesters had called off their agitation until Sunday after the the local administration assured them of releasing the jailed physician.
