Grameenphone’s (GP) Board has appointed Rajeev Sethi as the new Chief Executive Officer of the company.
Sethi, who has been the marketing chief of Uninor, the Indian subsidiary of GP’s parent company Telenor, will replace Vivek Sood from Dec 1.
Sood, who has been at the helm of GP since Jan, 2013, will re-join Uninor as its CEO, said a statement released by company.
“I’m honoured to join Grameenphone and become part of the efforts to provide Internet for All in Bangladesh. With its strong legacy of network quality and customer service, Grameenphone holds a superior position in the market and I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the team and serving more than 50 million customers with critical mobile services,” the statement quoted Sethi.
GP and Uninor have experienced significant market growth in India and Bangladesh, according to Telenor Executive Vice President Sigve Brekke.
“The two companies combined represent nearly 90 million mobile customers. Grameenphone is an undisputed market leader in Bangladesh and Uninor continues to capture market share in India. With these executive changes, Telenor aims to stimulate further growth and strengthen our position with customers in these markets,” the statement quoted Brekke, the head of Telenor Asia.
Sethi worked as the Chief Marketing Officer of Uninor for almost two years, before spending three years as the head of its Uttar Pradesh East circle.
