The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has traced a total of 1819.91 decimals of land in 32 districts across the country owned by ‘so-called’ Pir (saint) of Rajarbagh Darbar Shareef, Dillur Rahman, and his different institutions.
The ACC report further states that Dillur Rahman has leased a total of 300 acres of rubber plantation at Lama upazila in Bandarban district for 40 years. Apart from this, he owns total 56 cars.
The ACC submitted the report in the High Court recently complying with its earlier order.
Following a writ petition, a High Court Bench on September 19 in 2021 ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission to determine the assets belonging to Rajarbagh Pir Dillur Rahman and his different institutions in different parts of the country and the sources of those assets.
It also asked the Counter Terrorism and Transitional Crime (CTTC) Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police to find out if Rajarbagh Darbar Shareef Pir Dillur Rahman
had any connection with militancy. Both the CTTC and the ACC were asked to submit reports by November 30 over the asking.
ACC’s Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam, Assistant Director Md Altaf Hossain and Assistant Director Md Saiful Islam conducted the investigation. In the report they have said they have to collect more documents and therefore they need three months more to submit a complete report over the issue.
A major allegation against Dillur Rahman is that he is deceiving the common people in the name of religion. He has bought 7,000 acres of land in different parts of the country through irregularities. He grabbed the rubber plantation illegally.
After verifying and sorting out the allegations, the ACC launched an investigation. Dillur Rahman told the ACC in a written reply that the allegations against him are untrue.
The ACC has found 90 deeds of land donation in favor of Rajarbagh Darbar Shareef in different Mouzas of 32 districts including Cox’s Bazar, Cumilla, Gazipur, Jamalpur, Dinajpur, Joypurhat, Pabna, Rangpur. A total of 1179.96 decimals of land have been donated by those deeds, according to the ACC report. The remaining 639.95 decimals of land have been purchased in different times.
According to the income tax return submitted by Dillur Rahman in the financial year 2021-2022, his total assets including movable and immovable amount to Tk 5.4 million.
On 16 September, eight families filed a writ petition with the HC, seeking its order on the authorities to take appropriate actions against Pir Dillur Rahman and his disciples for filing vexatious cases against them. The families claimed the cases were logged to “be harassed and to grab their properties”.
After hearing the writ petition, the High Court Bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order and issued a rule.
In the ruling the High Court wanted to know from the respondents to explain in four weeks as to why they should not be directed to take appropriate legal action against Pir Dillur Rahman and his disciples for filing false cases against the writ petitioners.
Later Muhammad Mofizul Islam, one of the disciples of Pir Dillur Rahman, filed a leave to appeal petition against the High Court order. Later the Appellate Division also upheld the decision of the High Court.
