Calling upon the cross section of people to be aware against rumor and propaganda spreading on the social media, State Minister for Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak said all have to take stand against falsehood and rumor campaign disseminating on the social media.
“A vested quarter is trying to spread fake and false information in a planned way in the society by abusing the information technology”, he told the closing and prize distribution ceremony on a three-month campaign ‘Asol Chini’ on zoom online here.
Digital security agency under the ICT division organized the programme. In most of the cases, Palak said someone is being engaged in committing propaganda against particular person, agency or country on the modern facebook communication platform without any investigation. Calling everyone to be aware and active against rumor, the state minister said, both the teachers and guardians should be more careful to encourage positive use of the social media. The government has enacted digital security act in 2018, he said, adding that digital security agency and computer incidence response team also has been formed to identify the cyber criminals as a technological breakthrough has been happened in the country over the last 11 years.
Chaired by Digital Security Agency’s Director General and LICT project director M Rezaul Karim, the opening session of the programme was also joined by ICT division’s senior secretary NM Ziaul Alam, BCC Executive director Partho Protim Dev, LICT project’s policy advisor Sami Ahmed, BASIS president Syed Almas Kabir, Women and E-commerce Forum president Nasima Akhter Nisha, Bangladesh Innovation Forum Founder Arif Hasan Apu and Nasir Uddin Tito, uncle of Taslima Begum Renu who lost her life being a victim of rumor. Hasan Benaul Islam, digital communication specialist, moderated the function.
