State Minister for Women and children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira on Thursday underscored the need for raising awareness among the people to prevent suicidal death as the problem is increasing across the world due to depression.
“Poverty, family conflicts and divorce could be a reason behind the metal problem… So, the people should be more conscious to address it,” she said while addressing a function organised on the occasion at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.
Indira, also a Women Affairs Secretary of the ruling Awami League, said family has a huge responsibility as if a child could be brought up as a ‘good human being’.
To address the mental health problem, the state minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ensured healthcare services programme for the countrymen.
“The physicians also have to carry out more research on how to address this sort of problem,” she told the function jointly arranged by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Department of Clinical Psychology of the Dhaka University (DU).
Chaired by Women and Children Affairs Secretary Kamrun Nahar, the function was addressed, among others, by DU Professor Shahid Akhter Hossain, Clinical Psychology Society General Secretary Johir Uddin, Clinical Psychology Department Chairman Nazma Khatun and Dr Abul Hossain, Project Director of Multi-Sectoral Programme on Violence Against Women of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
