State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki stressed the need for raising allocations in budget for development of women to increase their participation in the mainstream of development. She said this on Wednesday while speaking as the chief guest at a function at Dhanmondi in the city organized by Ahsania Mission to distribute “Chand Sultana Award – 2013”.Jainal Abedin of Tan Hasadia at Paranganj in Mymensingh district got the award for social services. He received a crest, a certificate and a cheque for Taka 1 lakh.The state minister said half of the population is women. Repression on women would reduce with their empowerment, she added.Presided over by Ahsania Mission President Kazi Rafiqul Alam, the function was also addressed by Mission Executive Director Kazi Ali Reza, Director (Training) Rabeya Sultana and Chand Sultana Award winner Jainal Abedin.Dhaka Ahsania Mission has been giving “Chand Sultana Award” since 2001 for contribution to social services.
