Experts at a day-long training course here have stressed for enhancing fish production through ensuring proper utilisation of the water bodies involving the real fishermen to cut poverty rate and attain food security.
They were addressing the training course on ‘Good Aquaculture Patrice and Food Safety’ organised for the fish farmers and fishermen at Officers’ Club hall room in Gangachara upazila town in the district in Wednesday.
Gangachara Upazila Fisheries Department organised the training course participated by 20 fish farmers and fishermen of the upazila to enhance their skill and expertise on fish farming adopting the latest technologies.
With Gangachara Upazila Fisheries Officer Rezaul Kabir in the chair, Deputy Director of the Fisheries Department for Rangpur Rawshan Ara Begum attended and addressed the training course as the chief guest.
Assistant Director of the Fisheries Department Aminur Rahman and Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer Mahfuzur Rahman conducted different sessions of the day-long training course as the main resource persons.
National award winner fish farmer Mahfuz Shah, fish farmers Saidul Islam Dudu and Iqbal Hossain Suman and a number of the participants took part in the open discussion and narrated their experience and success in increasing fish production.
The experts stressed for proper utilisation of water bodies, beels, canals, haors and flood plains and bringing those under fish cultivation ensuring the best use of all existing natural resources to make the country self-sufficient in fish production.
They put emphasis on transferring of the latest pisciculture technologies to the farmers to protect the native fishes including small indigenous ones for enhancing fish production to meet up the increasing protein demand of all people.
The chief guest suggested the field level fisheries officers for bringing all prevailing water bodies under proper management to boost fish production involving the fishermen and fish farmers to explore the tremendous prospect of the fisheries sector.
She also put emphasis on increasing fish production to achieve economic self-reliance by the rural people, including fishermen community, after meeting their own nutritional demand side by side making the country self-reliant on fish production.
