‘Raise allowances for insolvent disabled’

Parliamentary Standing Committee for Social Welfare Ministry asked the ministry to take necessary steps for increasing allowances for insolvent persons with disabilities in the next annual budget.
The recommendation was made at the 7th meeting of the committee held at the Jaiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday with its chairman M Mozammel Hossain in the chair, a press release said here.Committee members Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, State Minister for Social Welfare Ministry Promod Mankin, Monoranjan Sheel Gopal, Ayesha Ferdous, M Habib e Millat, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, M Abdul Matin and Lutfa Taher attended the meeting.
The members also suggested the ministry to include representative of local Member of the Parliament in the upazila committee through bring amendment in the policy for insolvent disabled allowance.
They also suggested for conduct a survey in two unions through random sampling to see whether the disabled people are getting their allowances or not.
The members also discussed various issues including implementation of loan programme and child sensitive social protection in Bangladesh (CSPB). Social welfare secretary and other high officials of the ministry were also present.
