Feni Correspondent :Incessant rain and onrush of water from hills have inundated ten villages in Fulgazi and Parashuram upazilas of Feni.Road communications of the two upazilas with the district headquarters also came to a halt from Friday noon as the connecting Bilonia road went under water. Fulgazi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (OC) Mahidur Rahman told the New Nation yesterday that the strong flow of water from the Muhuri River had destroyed a dam in Sreepur area, causing nearby areas go under knee-deep water.”Thousands of people of the ten villages, including South Sreepur, Basuda, Basantapur, Kismat, Bijoypur, Chitholia, Parashuram and Fulgazi Sadar, are now marooned,” the OC said. Besides inundation of roads and houses, Fulgazi Upazila Complex, local police station and the local market have also been waterlogged, he said. He added over 200 fisheries and croplands in the area have been affected due to the rain. Engineer of Feni Water Development Board Ramzan Ali said the excessive rainfall has also caused river erosion in the areas.”We will begin repair work of the dam as soon as the rain stops,” he said.”Water in Muhuri and Kahua rivers is flowing 50cm above the danger level,” added Ramzan.
