UNB, Dhaka :
Torrential rain submerged many parts of the capital on Thursday, causing immense suffering to the city dwellers.
Many areas of the city, including Kakrail, Shanitanagar, Maghbazar, Mouchak, Malibagh and Rajarbagh went under knee-deep water due to rain. The rain that began in the morning flooded many of the city streets while commuters underwent unbearable sufferings
for unavailability of vehicles.
Commuters mostly school-and office-goers faced problems in reaching their destinations in the morning due to huge traffic jam triggered by the torrential rain.
Vehicles were seen moving slowly on the streets due to the rain, creating traffic congestion in the areas.
Many commuters were seen crossing the road wading through rainwater.
Many of them complained that drivers of rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaws charged them excessive fares, taking advantage of the inclement weather. The rain was recorded at 14 mm in the last 24 hours till 6 am on Thursday but torrential rain started from 9am, Met office sources said.
