Chittagong Test: Rain washes out 4th day’s play

Sports Reporter :There was no play on the fourth day of the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa due to continue rain at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Friday.It rained heavily on the fourth day and the play was not held due to wet weather and unplayable ground.Bangladesh still now have a 17-run lead.Electing to bat first, South Africa scored 248 in the first innings on the first day (Tuesday). Temba Bayuma notched up 54, Faf du Plessis made 48 and Dean Elgar scored 47. Mustafizur Rahman captured four wickets at the cost of 37 runs, Jubair Hossain grabbed three wickets instead of 53 runs.In reply, Bangladesh took the upper hand after they piled up a healthy total of 326 in the first innings on the third day (Thursday). Mahumudullah Riyad hit the team’s highest of 67, Tamim Iqbal notched up 57, Liton Das made 50 and Shakib Al Hasan scored 47. Dale Steyn and Simon Harmer grabbed three wickets each instead of 78 and 105 runs respectively and Vernon Philander bagged a pair of wickets for 40 runs.Later, South Africa were at the stumps at 61 for the loss of none. Staan van Zyl was on 33 and Dean Elgar was on 28 before the third day play was stopped due to bad light.
