Incessant rain lashed the capital since Tuesday morning, throwing normal life and movement of vehicles out of gear due to water-logging in various parts of the city.
Due to water-logging on the road, severe traffic jam has been created. Passengers have to be stuck on the road for hours due to traffic jams, causing untold sufferings to them.
“What happened in front of the street……so that the vehicles could not surge ahead? When the vehicular movement will be normal? Traffic police should take immidate measures to give the commuters respite despite untold traffic gridlock.”
Passengers from vehicles in different parts of the Dhaka city shared such status in their social media daylong on Tuesday.
They said that their vehicles were stalled hours after hours in same places which created very uneasy situations for most of the people.
“Passengers, especially kids, in public transports suffered most. Because, the elderly people may face the difficulties with their stamina, but the kids and children cannot for obvious reasons,” Saiful Islam, a bus passenger from Malibagh to Gulshan Notunbazar told journalists.
He said the traffic gridlock started soon after the morning rain.
Apart from the Dhaka city areas, the traffic gridlock reached the Gazipur city and created huge gridlock there, sources said.
As per the commuters statements, the traffic gridlock caught in Jatrabari, Sayedabad to Malibagh, Rampura, Badda, Gulshan streets, and Farmgate to Airport road, Mohakhali, Uttara and adjacent areas.
They said that buses and other vehicles seemed stalled in the city streets.
The traffic police found passing very busy times to make the intersections clear in different points including Paltan, Shahbagh, Banglamotor, Karwanbazar, Farmgate, Mohakhali and other places.
A bus passenger said from Mohakhali that he never experienced such a bitter traffic congestion so far.
“I have ridded on a Uttara-bound bus from Farmegate at morning 10:00am considering a 10 to 15 minutes journey. But it took more than two hours as we faced an untold traffic gridlock after the morning rain,” said Khairul Islam, a private job holder. Commuters from other roads in the city also expressed similar bitter experiences.
They said that intermittent rain made the gridlock situation worse.
They said that not even 10 buses could enter Gazipur from the Dhaka road due to the huge gridlock.
