Incessant rain on Friday submerged the low-lying areas of Chittagong metropolis and the city residents walked through the knee-deep to waist-deep water to gather distress only.
“The Met Office recorded 69 millimeters rainfall from 6:00 am to 12:00 noon,” said Sheikh Farid Ahmed, Met Officer of Patenga Metrological Office.
The water stayed on city roads for hours. It is because the WASA’ water pumping out arrangement is unsatisfactory.
Downpour began at dawn to inundate Bahaddar Hat, Bakalia, Chakbazar, Agrabad, Kapasgola, CMB area, Muradpur, Gate number Two, Sholashahar, GEC intersection, WASA intersection, Lalkhan Bazar, Hali Shahar, Badurtola and 11 other locales with knee-deep to waist-deep water. It was raining intermittently since 12:00pm.
Dirty water entered houses, shops, factories and offices, making it almost impossible
for females to prepare foods and males to reach their destinations. A very few number of transports were seen to struggle in water.
Businessman Abdus Salam Sawdagor from Lalkhan Bazar said water entered his shops and damaged furniture.
