TNN, Mumbai :On a day when Mumbai got its first good rain of the season, the municipal corporation announced water cuts across the city. For at least a fortnight, beginning Thursday, the duration of the water supply will be reduced by 20%, which should translate into a 10-15% drop in supply, officials said. The civic body warned that the six lakes, from where Mumbai draws its supply, have enough water to tide the city over for less than a month. Even on Wednesday, when several parts of Mumbai received strong showers, the catchment areas got an average of only 4mm of rain.”The cuts have been necessitated by lack of rain in the catchment areas. The water stock has been declining.
