The city saw severe traffic congestions and water-logging triggered by prolonged showers on Tuesday, causing immense sufferings to commuters.
The first spell of the day’s rainfall started around 10 am and flooded many city streets in areas like Moghbazar, Mouchack, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Kakrail, Rajarbagh, Uttar Badda, Madyha Badda, Merul Badda and Bashundhara Gate.
Vehicles were seen moving slowly on the streets due to the rains, creating traffic tailbacks in the areas.
School students and their guardians had to face trouble for lack of transports after the school hours. Auto-rickshaw drivers and rickshaw-pullers charged excessive fares from passengers.
The rain continued in three shorter spells till the afternoon. Many commuters were seen crossing roads wading through rainwater.
The Met Office recorded two mm of rainfall from 6am to 12pm in the capital. It also recorded 43 mm of rainfall in Hatia while 17 mm in Sandiwp, 16 mm in Rangamati, 15 mm in Chittagong and 13 mm Sitakunda.
