Railway evicts 500 floating shops

 The authority of the Bangladesh Railway (BR) in a special drive today evicted over 500 floating shops and houses built near Dewanhat bridge area in the city.
BR, Eastern Zone, conducted the three-hour eviction drive at Dewanhat bridge area yesterday noon.
Anisul Islam, executive magistrate of Chittagong Deputy Commissioner office conducted the drive with the help of police and railway officials at 10 am yesterday.
The floating shops and houses in connivance with the local influential illegally occupied the railway track and sold scrap goods on and beside the railway track near Dewanhat bridge area, said Jasim Uddin, divisional, estate officer of BR, Eastern zone. “We have evicted over 500 makeshift shops and floating houses on both sides of the railway track and city’s Dewanhat bridge today as per directives of the BR authority”, he said adding that the authority would continue such drives in the future.
