A Gazipur court on Thursday sent Rafiqul Islam Madani to jail after he was sued under Digital Security Act on charges of delivering anti-state and provocative speeches.
Gazipur Senior Judicial Magistrate Shariful Islam sent him to jail after he was produced before his court.
According to the police, Madani said he “rejected” the prime minister and president. He allegedly spread hate on Youtube as well.
Earlier on Thursday, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed the case against the 27-year-old preacher with the Gaccha Police Station in Gazipur, media reports say.
The case was filed by RAB Deputy Additional Director Mohammad Khaled.
Some objectionable video clips, including ‘adult content,’ were found in Madani’s mobile phone after his arrest which proves he is a fraud, the RAB said.
On Wednesday, RAB arrested Madani on the charges of making anti-state statements and for instigating unrest. He was arrested from his home in Netrokona.
Madani was handed over to the police in Gazipur on Wednesday night.
On March 26, Madani and 30 others were detained by the police for clashes during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.
He is accused of spreading negative and provocative remarks about the administration through YouTube.
Several destructive activities were carried out in various places, including Brahmanbaria and Chattogram, following Madani’s provocative statements.
