Rabindra museum is drawing huge crowd everyday at Dakkhindihi under Fultala upazila ahead of the poet’s 155th birth anniversary celebration.
Dakkhindhi, father-in-law’s house of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore was turned into a museum in 2012.
While visiting the museum on Thursday afternoon this correspondent found that visitors from country’s different area gathered at the different part of the museum and everywhere at Dakkhindihi.
“I have come here to see the father-in-law’s house of Kabiguru who wrote poem and songs here,” said Srabonty Sen, a teacher and Rabindra lover of a Barisal private college.
Over 10,000 visitors come here every year to see the museum from different parts of the country and also from abroad, said Saifur Rahman, assistant director of the Department of Archeology in Khulna.
The Department of Archeology has carried out the renovation work to make the house a museum titled ‘Rabindra Complex’ in 2011-12 fiscal year.
Sources in Khulna regional office of the department said Tagore’s in-law’s house, bearing his memories is a preserved archeological site. Tk 30.3 lakh has been allocated for renovation of the house.
Afroza Khan Mita, Acting Director of the Regional Archeology Department, said renovation was completed in 2011-12 fiscal year.
The maternal ancestral home of the great poet was also situated at Dakkhindihi village.
Tagore had married Bhabatarini alias Mrinalini Devi, daughter of Benimadhab Roy Chowdhury of the village on December 9 in 1883. Their marriage was solemnized at Jora Sanko in Kolkata.
Afroza Khan Mita said the two-storey museum building has four rooms on the first floor and two rooms on the ground floor at present.
The building has eight windows on the ground floor and 21 windows on the first floor. The height of the roof from the floor on the ground floor is 13 feet. There are seven doors, six windows and wall almirahs on the first floor.
Over 500 books were kept in the library and all the rooms have been decorated with rare pictures of Rabindranath.
Mita said the 3.24 acres of land in the site gazzeted in favour of the Department of Archeology in 2010 but total land did not come under the possession of the ministry so far.
Contacted, deputy commissioner of Khulna Nazmul Hasan said the cultural ministry has allotted Tk 4.5 lakh for Dakkhindihi and Tk 2 lakh for Pithabhog for celebrating 155th birth anniversary of Tagore this year.
