Rabab Fatima made ambassador to UN

The government has decided to appoint current Bangladesh ambassador to Japan Rabab Fatima as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York, a foreign ministry press release said here on Wednesday. Ambassador Fatima is a career foreign service officer belonging to 1986 batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre. Fatima had worked in various capacities in foreign ministry here as well as Bangladesh Missions in New York, Geneva, Kolkata and Beijing. Ambassador Fatima served in lien with two international organizations, the Commonwealth Secretariat, London and International Organization for Migration (IOM).
She served as Head of Human Rights at Commonwealth Secretariat from 2006 to 2007 and Regional Representative for South Asia at IOM in Dhaka from 2007 to 2011 and as Regional Coordinator and Adviser for South and South West Asia and Regional Adviser for Climate Change and Migration at IOM in Bangkok from 2012 to 2015.
Ambassador Fatima obtained her Masters in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA.
