Benazir Ahmed took over the charge of the elite force, ‘Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday as the Director General.
At the charge taking over ceremony, the DG said that the RAB would be restructured and it would be a ‘high-technical force.’
He said this in a press briefing at RAB headquarters at Uttara in the capital on Wednesday.
“I want to see first how capable RAB is before I introduce new technologies for the force,” he said.
Benazir said, technology has an ever-changing nature and new technologies are necessary to check terrorism and militancy.
The new director general of RAB expressed his firm determination to fight terrorism and militancy.
“Our objective will be to combat terrorism, militancy and organized crimes. We will work to achieve people’s trust and will maintain law and order.”
Benazir said, he would strive to make RAB one of the leading forces in the Southeast Asia.
“There are some politicians who want to inject politics into everything. RAB will not pay heed to such advice but will focus on its own duties,” he added.
The former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said, any RAB officer, if found guilty of a crime, will himself bear the consequence.
“Actions will be taken in accordance with the existing laws against any RAB official if he does wrong,” added Benazir.
RAB Additional Director General Colonel Ziaul Ahsan, and the force’s media and legal wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan were present at the briefing.
