Sinha killing: RAB takes 3 APBn men in custody for quizzing

Three members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) were taken into RAB custody from jail on Saturday for interrogation, in a case filed in connection with the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.
The APBn personnel are Assistant Sub-inspector Md Shahjahan and constables Razib and Md Abdullah. They were on duty at the Shamlapur checkpoint at 9:30pm on July 31, yards away from the spot where Maj (retd) Sinha was killed.
A Rab team, led by Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Khairul Islam of Rab, also the investigation officer (IO) of the murder case, took the trio from Cox’s Bazar prison around 12:00pm today (Saturday), said Md Mokammel Hossain, superintendent of the district jail.
The three policemen were first taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for medical check-up and later taken to the Rab-15 office for interrogation, our district correspondent reports quoting Rab officials.
On August 18, the three APBn members were arrested and placed on a seven-day remand in the murder case.
Meanwhile, the pistol, by which Inspector Liaquat shot ex-Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, was handed over to the RAB on Saturday. So long it was under the police custody.
Sinha was killed in police firing at Shamlapur Police Checkpost under Baharchhara union in Teknaf upazila at about 10:00pm on July 31. Following the incident, sister Shahriar Sharmin Ferdous of the slain army officer filed a murder case at a Cox’s Bazar court on August 5 accusing nine police personnel including suspended Teknaf Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das and ex-Baharchhara Police Outpost in-charge Inspector Liaquat Ali. The court gave the responsibility of investigation of the case to RAB.
Earlier on Thursday, a court sent four accused cops and three other suspects to jail after they were questioned by RAB for seven days over the Sinha murder case.
Besides, the three main murder accused, suspended OC Pradeep Kumar Das, suspended SI Liakat Ali and suspended ASI Nanda Dulal, were taken to the crime scene by the investigating officer on Friday.
