N'ganj 7-murder: RAB SI Bala 8-day remand

A court here granted an eight-day remand for arrested RAB-11 sub-inspector Purnendu Bala in the Narayanganj seven-murder case on Saturday, a day after his arrest from the capital’s Tejgaon area.
Narayanganj Judicial Magistrate Saiduzzaman Sharif granted the remand in a case filed by Selina Islam, wife of slain Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, after police produced Bala before the court seeking a 10-day remand for him, said Investigation officer of the case Mamunur Rashid Mondol.
Purnendu Bala was arrested by a team of RAB-2 from Tejgaon area in the capital around 1:25 pm on Friday.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in Narayanganj city. Hours into their abduction, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including those of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30.

Besides, the body of Jahangir, car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river on May 1.
So far, 10 RAB members, including former members Lt Col Tareque, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana, have been arrested in connection with the seven-murder incident. Nine of them have made their confessional statements under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
