Four coaching centres in the capital’s Keraniganj area have been shut down for violating the government embargo of not to conduct the centres during the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations.
A Mobile Court assisted by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted the drive and also fined the owners of Shatata, Confidence, Pathshala and MR coaching centres Tk 1,000 each on Friday.
Major Syed Imran Hoshan, Company Commander of RAB-10 in Keraniganj said, “Students were seen attending classes in the coaching centres during the raid. There were SSC examinees attending mathematics classes in MR and Pathshala. The SSC mathematics test is scheduled for Saturday.”.
Two out of the four centres were operated by two local school teachers, while the other two by two students, he said.
The government has ordered to keep all coaching centres in the country closed during the SSC and equivalent exams in a bid to prevent question leak. The ban began on January 27 to end on February 27.
The government issued a guideline restricting teachers from tutoring students of their own institutions in 2012. After hearing several
petitions challenging the move against private coaching, the High Court on Thursday said that the guideline was ‘valid’.
The guideline says that a teacher can tutor maximum 10 students from other institutions after submitting their details to the head of their own institution and securing their approval.
