BNP leader and former Member of Parliament of Laksam constituency Saiful Islam Hiru and Laksam Poura unit BNP president Humayun Kabir Parvez were abducted on November 27 last year, Shahnaz Akhter, wife of Parvez told the press last Wednesday at her Laksham residence.”Some people introducing themselves as members of RAB took away my husband, using the vehicles of the elite force. She further said that the then Commanding Officer of RAB-11 Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad gave the leadership to the abduction”, Daily Sun said in a report. She appealed to the government for return of her husband. Parvez’s mother Razia Begum, son Shahriar Kabir, daughters Maimuna Jahan and Jannatul Nayem, municipality unit BNP general secretary SM Tajul Islam and upazila unit BNP organising secretary Shah Alam were present on the occasion. A total of 12 persons including Parvez and his father-in-law Hiru, were taken away by RAB on the night of November 27 last year, she added. “RAB-11 crime prevention team’s Deputy Assistant Director Shahjahan Ali was among others in the team that took them away. They also took Tk 15 lakh from the business organisation of Hiru at that time,” she further alleged. RAB later handed over 10 out of 12 persons to Laksam police station. But the whereabouts of Hiru and Parvez remains unknown so far, she said. “We had been to the police station repeatedly to file a case against RAB, but police refused to take any complaint. They suggested filing a general dairy for disappearance. They said it’s not possible to file case against RAB,” she said.A vested quarter used RAB to abduct them for political and business rivalry, she alleged. Farida Islam Hasi, wife of Hiru, said, “My husband remains traceless for the last five months. We want his safe return.”Haru’s son Rafsan said, “I want to get back my father.”On November 27, Hiru, Parvez and another local leader Jasim Uddin were going to Dhaka from Laksam by an ambulance named ‘Fair Health’. When the ambulance reached Alishahor area in Comilla Sadar south upazila, some plain-clothes men introducing themselves as RAB personnel stopped the ambulance and picked up the trio. The captors left the place after taking them in another vehicle.Although RAB-11 crime prevention company-2 DAD Shajahan handed over local BNP leader Jasim to Laksam police station at 12:30am on that night, but nothing is known about Parvez and Hiru so far.
