Three people, including the wife of a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) member, were hacked to death in separate incidents in Gazipur, Nilphamari and Laxmipur districts on Saturday and Friday night.
In Gazipur, a RAB man’s wife was chopped to death by unidentified miscreants in the city’s Tongi area on Saturday noon.
The victim was identified as Salma Khatun, wife of Nayek Omar Ali of RAB-4. Quoting locals, police said a group of miscreants stormed into the house of Omar Ali at Adarshapara at around noon and swooped on his wife Salma.
They hacked Salma with sharp weapons indiscriminately, killing her on the spot.
On information, police recovered a blood-stained knife from the house. Omar Ali was outside the house during the incident.
The reason behind the killing could not be known yet.
In Nilphamari, an alleged gambler was chopped dead by his fellows over gambling at Satnai Balapara in Dimla upazila early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Mominur Rahman, 22, son of Fazlul Haque of the village.
Police said Momin had an altercation with his co-gamblers-Bakul, Saddam, Shahin and Abul Hossain-over the game in a bamboo cluster of the village in the early hours.
At one stage, other gamblers hacked Momin indiscriminately, leaving him injured critically.
On information, victim’s family members rescued Momin and first took him to Dimla Upazila Health Complex and then shifted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
In Laxmipur, a mason, Sirajul Islam, son of Abdul Kader of Uttar Gaiarchar village, was hacked to death by his rival over previous enmity at village of Raipur upazila on Friday night.
Officer-in-charge of Raipur police station M Manzurul Haque Akand said Sirajul came under the attack alleged by his rival, Harun Mal, of the village on his way home from local mosque on Friday afternoon.
Harun also chopped one Fazlul Karim as he tried to save Sirajul from the attack.
Sirajul was first taken to Raipur upazila health complex and shifted to Noakhali General Hospital where he died at about 10pm. Police arrested Harun in this connection.
