Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained eight fake members of Detective Branch (DB) of police while they were committing the crime of robbery in Tongi area of Gazipur on Tuesday.
A locally-made shotgun, four round of cartridges, a privateer, two sets of walkie talkies, three DB-written jackets, four knives,
a dagger, 20 mobile phones, eight car number plates and various robbery equipment were seized from them.
The detainees were identified as Shahid Akand, 42, Zakir Hossain alias Kamal, 35, Shahjahan, 35, Mahbub Manik, 31, Babu Islam alias Peechi Babu, 28, Al Amin Hossain, 36, Noor Islam, 29, and Arjina Begum, 23.
“Shahid and Kamal are masterminds of the robber rang, because they control a gang of 15-16 robbers. On pretext of DB identity, they have been committing crimes of robbery and extortion for a long time,” RAB-1’s acting company commander and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Salauddin told the media.
Legal action is underway against the detainees, said Salauddin.
